In Glendale, Arizona. Patrick Mahomes is a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP for the second time in his career.
Following his quarterbacking of Kansas City’s 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57, the Chiefs quarterback was named the game’s MVP. He is the sixth player in Super Bowl history to receive multiple MVP trophies.
Despite playing with a ginger ankle that reaggravated in the first half, Mahomes completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. In the victory, he gained 44 running yards as well.
At halftime, the Chiefs were down 24-14 but scored 24 points in the second half. In the second half, Mahomes and the Chiefs scored on each possession. According to NFL Research, the Super Bowl record for teams that were down by at least 10 points at halftime before Sunday was 1-26. Kansas City fought back and became the second club to overturn a deficit of at least ten points.
The first time two Black quarterbacks faced off in a Super Bowl was in Super Bowl 57. The title game was a showcase for Mahomes and Jalen Hurts’ incredible efforts, which was only fitting.
Mahomes had a fantastic year, which was capped off by his Super Bowl 57 MVP award. The only quarterback to surpass 5,000 passing yards and 40 touchdowns this year, he led the NFL with 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns during the regular season. He already had the NFL MVP award thanks to his performance, and now he can add the Super Bowl MVP and another Lombardi Trophy to his collection. He is the seventh quarterback in NFL history to win both the MVP of the NFL and the MVP of the Super Bowl in the same year.
